Sources of books for children and young people with a vision impairment

Big books

  • Available from local libraries. Pre-school settings can sign up for a library card and then arrange an extended loan period.  

Large print books

  • Local library service. Books are marked as large print. You can request titles and they can see if it available in large print format  
  • CustomEyes service run by Guidedogs.org.uk. They offer large print books for the same price as standard books.   • Access 2 books –giant print (75pt) and braille (Early learning Braille – double spaced and single sided, giant print with braille – single spaced, double sided) books with written picture descriptions.
