Sources of books for children and young people with a vision impairment

Available from local libraries. Pre-school settings can sign up for a library card and then arrange an extended loan period.

Local library service. Books are marked as large print. You can request titles and they can see if it available in large print format
CustomEyes service run by Guidedogs.org.uk. They offer large print books for the same price as standard books. Join for free as a family or school and access the catalogue. Access 2 books –giant print (75pt) and braille (Early learning Braille – double spaced and single sided, giant print with braille – single spaced, double sided) books with written picture descriptions. Devon libraries have an app called ‘Libby’ which allows users to download e-books and talking books. https://devon.overdrive.com/

RNIB Bookshare is a free library, for schools, that provides textbooks and materials to support national curricula. It offers a range of accessible formats for people who are unable to read standard print, including those with dyslexia and those who are blind or partially sighted.
