Resignation dates

Teachers, including deputy headteachers, must give two months’ notice to their current employer (three months in the summer). Existing headteachers must give three months’ notice (four months in the summer).

Headteacher resignation dates

To take up a post for the:

  • spring term (1 January) – give notice by 30 September
  • summer term (after Easter) – give notice by 31 January
  • autumn term (1 September) – give notice by 30 April

Deputy headteacher/teacher resignation dates

To take up a post for the:

  • spring term (1 January) – give notice by 31 October
  • summer term (after Easter) – give notice by end of February
  • autumn term (1 September) – give notice by 31 May
