SEND advice and guidance

SEND ICT

What we do

The team supports access to and the use of ICT in schools for children and young people with a wider range of needs e.g. Sensory and physical, Communication and Interaction, Cognition and Learning. We work as part of the Multidisciplinary Team Around the Child and contribute to the creation and implementation of statutory and non-statutory plans.

ICT Consultations

Settings can request an ICT consultation for advice on how they can support Children & Young People (CYP) recording their work and ideas using technology.

The sessions last approximately 45 mins and will be specific to the needs of the CYP based on information submitted during booking and through any discussions had during the session.

They may include:

  • Advice on how to develop typing skills
  • Advice for making use of Speech to text software
  • How to make use of accessibility features
  • App suggestions
  • Literacy support software recommendations
  • Tips for how to implement ideas in the setting
  • Discussions around equipment and peripherals such as headsets, keyboards and styluses.

Following the session, a write up of the discussion will be completed and sent out.

To book on to an ICT consultation, follow the link at the bottom of the page for Requesting Access to SEND support and chose ICT SEND as the primary area of need requiring support.

There is no cost to settings to book an ICT consultation.

Ordinarily Available Inclusive Provision (OAIP)

Ordinarily Available Inclusive Provision (OAIP) describes the inclusive provision and practice that all Devon schools, early years, and post 16 settings should be able to provide for all children and young people, including those with SEND, from within their own resources. This will support all children and young people to attend, engage and thrive in their educational setting.

It describes approaches, provision and practice that is ‘helpful to all, harmful to none and crucial for some’.

Requesting access to SEND support

Schools and settings wishing to access SEND support should read the guidance and submit a request for access to SEND support form.
