Specialist curriculum


Our team uses specialist curricula to support effective planning of support for children and young people that are Deaf and/or hard of hearing. The frameworks use parent or carer, pupil voice and input from other professionals to promote a collaborative approach.

The following are used by the team:

  • Success from the Start

    For children aged 0-3, the team use, Success from the Start, as a developmental resource, to support effective planning of support for pre school children who are deaf and/or hard of hearing. It is created with their families and carers to promote a collaborative approach.

  • Audiology and Deafness curriculum

    For school aged children and young people, the team use, the Audiology and Deafness curriculum to help raise their awareness and understanding of their own deafness. It aims to support independence and support them in developing their identity as a deaf and/or hard of hearing CYP.  The curriculum consists of five focus areas.

  • British Sign Language curriculum

    This curriculum has four progressive phases. Each phase has four modules that cover:

    Deaf Identity
    Language awareness and grammatical features
    The role of language
