Guidance

This guidance summarises how we apply the principles of eligibility for adult care and support in the Care Act 2014 to travel and transport.

Where someone needs to travel to get an adult social care service or source of support that has been assessed as necessary to meet eligible needs under the Care Act we will help them find a way to get there.

In line with our Promoting Independence Policy, wherever possible we will support people to be independent and to learn or re-learn the skills they need to be independent. Where someone can get to a service or source of support themselves, we will expect them to do so.

Where someone has difficulty in doing this we will help them access the most appropriate transport option for them, this will include exploring what community and voluntary opportunities are available.

Devon County Council will support people with their transport needs if it is the only reasonable way of making sure that a person can get to a service or a source of support that is needed to meet their eligible needs.
