School Workforce Census Latest Information

Fileset 2805

Fileset 2805 is now available on the Scomis website.  Scomis advise that the fileset was applied to all hosted schools on 23rd October, non hosted schools need to download and import the file themselves, via Autumn 2024 – Fileset 2800 series – School Census – Frequently Asked Questions

Known Issues

4565Q (Staff member appears to be paid more than the maximum of the local government pay scale).

This query should be generated where other support staff and teaching assistants have a total pay of more than £55,000.  However it is being generated where total pay is more than £50,000.  Therefore this is being triggered incorrectly if a person’s total pay is between £50,000 to £55,000.  The DfE have correct this issue in COLLECT.  Once you’ve checked the member of staff’s total pay, if the query’s being generated incorrectly in your school’s MI system it should clear when your file is uploaded to COLLECT.

Updates

Teachers Pay and Conditions – pay scales and pay review dates

Whilst the DfE have now published their teachers pay and conditions document for 2024, your school might not have agreed the pay changes at the time of the census.  The DfE have advised that if staff are still being paid under the 2023 scales, those pay details should be recorded with a pay review date in 2023/24. If they are being paid under the 2024 scales, then record that pay with a pay review date in 2024/25.

Sims users: School Business Professional (SBP) and Leadership Non Teacher (LNT) tick boxes

ESS have released the following information regarding SBP and LNT tick boxes:

SBP (School Business Professional) and LNT (Leadership Non Teacher) are obtained from a member of staff’s contract, so why is SIMS providing tick boxes for SBP and LNT?

The DfE required SBP and LNT regardless of whether contracts are being included in the census. Where a school is providing contract data, SBP and LNT can be obtained from staff contracts. However, where contracts are not being provided, another source is needed to obtain SBP and LNT. Hence the introduction tick boxes for SBP and LNT.

School’s that provide contract data are free to make use of the new SBP and LNT tick boxes, but this will make no difference to the census as SBP and LNT will continue to be obtained from staff contracts where schools have ticked to provide staff contract details.
