School Census Bulletin 1 – Summer 2025
DfE School Census Date: Thurs 15th May 2025 Return Date: Tues 20th May 2025
As you may be aware, the statutory School Census for the Summer Term takes place on Thu 15th May. We strongly recommend that schools begin to prepare for the School Census by ensuring that, so far as possible, pupil databases are up-to-date and the relevant systems / accesses are in place.
1. New data items
There are no new data items for this census
2. Bromcom users
Scomis have produced a ‘Quick Summary Guide for Bromcom’ (available via Scomis Summer School Census Bulletin) which includes;
- information on pre-checks before starting your census
- a list of census data items and where to navigate to in Bromcom
- creating a census process
Please monitor the Scomis Summer School Census Bulletin for latest information on Bromcom census files.
3. Early Years Portal – 11th May deadline to inform reports needed for census
A headcount task has been added to the Early Years portal. Whilst the portal doesn’t close until Sun 18th May, new children and new parent/carer consent forms need to be added by Sun 11th May. This will inform the EYPP and EY 2yr old funding reports that you need to complete your census return.
For this summer census the early years portal and school census collections are based on different weeks. The early years headcount week is Sun 4th to Sat 10th May (which is before census week). As the collections are based upon different weeks comparisons of hours held in the two collections cannot be made. However, we will be able to check that pupils in the EY portal also exist in the school census return. It is therefore important that you complete the EY portal by close of 18th May.
4. Department for Education (DfE) Sign-in Portal – COLLECT
We are aware, that some schools, have in the past encountered difficulties with their COLLECT access. We therefore ask that you check your COLLECT access by logging in to the DfE Sign in Portal as soon as possible https://services.signin.education.gov.uk/.
