Equality and diversity are fundamental to creating an inclusive, high-quality education system where every learner can thrive. Schools and settings are not only places of academic learning but also environments that shape values, attitudes, and opportunities. Promoting equality ensures that all learners – regardless of background, identity, or ability – have fair access to education and the support they need to succeed. Embracing diversity enriches the learning experience by fostering respect, cultural awareness, and collaboration among students and staff.
The Ethnically Diverse Education Achievement Service (EDEAS) has partnered with the Devon Schools Wellbeing Partnership to deliver fully funded EDI training to Devon schools and EYFS settings (excluding Torbay and Plymouth), through webinars and our new eLearning course.

Aims of this training programme
- Increase staff awareness and understanding of the Equality Act 2010, Public Sector Equality Duty, safeguarding expectations and the role of education settings in promoting equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Develop staff knowledge of protected characteristics, inclusive terminology and respectful practice, enabling participants to create environments where diversity is understood, valued and celebrated.
- Build staff confidence in recognising, responding to and preventing bullying, prejudice, discrimination and racism incidents, using anti-discriminatory and culturally aware approaches.
- Strengthen understanding of how bias, assumptions and barriers can affect children, young people and families, supporting more inclusive and equitable practice.
- Promote consistent EDI language, understanding and expectations across schools, EYFS settings and the wider education workforce, including new and supply staff.
- Support staff to reflect on their own practice and identify practical actions that contribute to inclusive, relational and restorative learning environments.
- Improve awareness of available EDI guidance, resources and sources of support, enabling schools and settings to access further help when required.
- Increase understanding of the importance of recording, monitoring and responding appropriately to bullying, prejudice and racism incidents as part of safeguarding and inclusion practice.
- Support EYFS settings and schools to develop a shared understanding of inclusive practice, helping staff recognise and respond to the diverse needs of children throughout their educational journey, particularly through key transitions.
- Create a sustainable resource to support schools.
Primary and secondary schools
EDI fully funded awareness webinars
Following on from EDEAS’s success in delivering EDI training to over 600 school staff during their last training programme, EDEAS are pleased to offer Devon schools the opportunity to arrange a 1hr webinar. This fully funded webinar is delivered in an interactive quiz-style format designed to encourage participation, spark discussion, and promote reflection by exploring:
- Legislation and guidance
- Pride and inclusion
- Consistent language around prejudice, racism and discrimination
- Strategies to embed within your school around prevention and intervention
- Understanding Bullying, prejudice and racism incidents (BPRIs) and their impacts
If you or your school has attended an EDEAS EDI training session in recent years, please note that a significant amount of content is reflected in this webinar and therefore it may not be suitable to attend again and webinars might be attended by multiple schools.
As this is a webinar programme, other sschools may attend the same webinar.
EDI fully funded eLearning course
Over the coming months EDEAS will be designing an EDI eLearning course, which will be fully funded for all Devon schools to access for two years following the date of launch. This is an ideal opportunity for whole school and individual staff to access CPD at a time convenient to them for self-study. This can also be incorporated into new staff inductions, particularly for schools who have previously received EDI training from EDEAS.

- Consistent language around prejudice, racism and discrimination
- Strategies to embed within your school around prevention and intervention
- Understanding Bullying, prejudice and racism incidents (BPRIs) and their impacts
Early years foundation stage (EYFS) settings
EDEAS are pleased to introduce a new training opportunity focussed on EYFS children. Our EDI EYFS awareness webinars are fully funded and available to all Devon settings. This 1hr webinar is delivered in an interactive quiz-style format designed to encourage participation, spark discussion, and promote reflection by exploring:
- Legislation and guidance
- Gender and inclusion
- Consistent language around prejudice, racism and discrimination
- Strategies to embed within your settings curriculum around prevention and intervention
- Understanding Bullying, prejudice and racism incidents (BPRIs) and their impacts
- Supporting parents and your community
EDEAS’ EYFS EDI awareness training will be delivered from the 1st of October 2026.
