1. Get advice
- Swift response once concerns are identified
- Active listening – Pupil voice
- Maintain clear communication with family and pupil
- Strengths-based discussions with pupil and family
- Joint approach and plans agreed with school/pupil/family/EWO
- Consider Graduated Response Tool to identify needs
- Consider referral into SPA or School nurse
- Make reasonable adjustments and plan for full reintegration to school promptly
- Signpost to wellbeing platform (young people) Kooth
- Highlight with Mental Health Lead in school
- Healthy Schools training/resources
- Review regularly
PROGRESS IS MADE – MOVE TO UNIVERSAL KEEPING ADJUSTMENTS THAT ARE SUCCESSFUL
2. Get help
All the previous plus:
- Mental Health Support Teams in schools (where available)/TWS for children open to social care
- Involve School nurse and Education Welfare Officer
- Consider Individual Health Care Plan
- Consider Early Help support and a Multi-agency approach (family, education, health and social care)
- Involve EP for advice on next steps, interventions and assessments
- Consider the following for referrals: Young Devon, CAMHS, C&IT & SEMH Advisory Teams
- Agree a plan and timescale for support
REVIEW AND REFER BACK TO UNIVERSAL KEEPING ADAPTATIONS/INTERVENTIONS THAT ARE SUCCESSFUL
3. Get more help
All the previous plus:
- Bespoke planning , adaptations & advice: Education Wellbeing Team
- Referral to bespoke support eg: Normal Magic, EMTAS, GRT, Proud2be, Intercom Trust
- Early Help participants are fully engaged in the process
- Graduated Response (assess-plan-do-review)
MAINTAIN CONTACT WITH UNIVERSAL AND RETAIN ADAPTATIONS/STRATEGIES THAT SUPPORT PROGRESS
4. Further support
All previous plus:
- Multi-agency meeting to risk assess current support
- Consider MASH for support and advice
- Consider S19 referral
- Review current offer and provision
- Personalised package of support
- Consider pathways back into learning
- Review Graduated Response (assess-plan-do-review)
