Module A: What is British Sign Language (BSL)?Moving between languages and cultures, understanding that words and signs do not have direct equivalents.
To understand that different languages are used by people in different countries, hearing and deaf

Understanding the role of language and culture and that language changes according to difference, context, time and place

Children and young people (CYP) are able to obtain, process, interpret and  convey information through a range of  BSL texts; developing and applying knowledge

CYP obtain information and point out errors in an appropriate way
Module B: Deaf Identity
  • Family/ Home/ Daily Routines
  • Socialising, identity, role of language and culture

 

CYP able to discuss what it is like being Deaf
CYP able to discuss what communication method they use at home and their mini history about their Deafness
CYP able to observe and compare the past/present of Deaf Signers

Identity

To know when their birthday is and describe a birthday party at an appropriate BSL level

Exploring and expressing sense of identity: to discuss memories from birth, with timelines
Module C: Language awareness and grammatical features:
  • Colour, Modification, Placement, Describing, Negation, Numbers and Shapes

 

Informing, Socialising:

Expansion of use and understanding of question forms.

To be able to recognise different facial expressions
To be able to present their news on video and observe themselves.
To be able to recognise the signers deliberate mistakes
Module D:The Role of Language
  •  Story telling – What happens next?

Creating:

To expand imaginative skills using BSL principles in a range of texts such as poetry and performance
