Advice for my younger self

We asked the children and young people that we support, what advice would you give your younger self?

Read below the wisdom they shared with us:

I used to be really nervous about meeting new people, as I thought they wouldn’t be nice and wouldn’t help me. But now I’m older I’ve learnt that people do want to help and make a difference. And this is really important, as it is nice to know that people do try to understand what it is like to be visually impaired. You can feel the impact they make, making things easier for you.”

“Even though it’s hard at the start you will gain confidence. No matter what obstacles come about, you will get over them.”

“Make the most of being young as it doesn’t last forever! Your personality is what’s important and not your appearance.”

“If you think your glasses don’t fit or are not the right prescription – tell someone! Don’t assume that they are how they are meant to be. They will check them and make sure you have the fit or lenses.”

“Try and be happy with who you are because there are people that truly care about you and they will like you for you are. If you can’t see something or don’t understand something, just be honest – you never need to pretend to be someone else”
