Braille 200

To celebrate braille’s two hundredth anniversary, we’re celebrating Braille 200 (#Braille200 on social media) from September 2024 until August 2025 and inviting everyone to celebrate in marking this huge milestone for the blind and partially sighted community.

We have recently held a braille awareness session at Newton Abbot Library. Children from local schools and the community discovered more about braille and learned to braille their names using a Perkins brailler

The pictures show a range of tactile resources that includes rulers, playing cards, and braille Lego

For more information about Braille please contact your local advisory teacher.

The Clearvision Project have produced a puzzle booklet called Crack the code . It is a great introduction for sighted parents, school staff and anyone else interested in learning to read uncontracted (grade 1) braille by sight. It is full of activities, puzzles and jokes designed to introduce the braille alphabet, simple punctuation and numbers and will only take a couple of hours to complete. The Clearvision Project are happy for you to download and distribute it for free to anyone interested in learning or supporting a young braille reader, provided the booklet is produced in its entirety and given away, not sold, and the copyright information is included.
