You will need
- Metal or plastic bowls
- A selection of small balls (wooden, plastic, rubber or metal)
- Cubes (wooden or plastic)
- Beads or other smaller items
- A wooden spoon
What to do
- Model first – place a bowl on the board, close to the learner.
- Drop a single object into a bowl and listen / feel the vibration.
- Add more objects and notice the changes.
- Swirl objects in the bowls and compare sounds.
- Try different amounts, sizes, textures, and shapes.
- Create your own combinations and listen / feel the differences.
- Sing songs / chant actions as you add items / stir.
- Enjoy exploring the sounds and vibrations!
Top tips
Less is more! Don’t use too many bowls or resources at one time.
Safety tip: Make sure objects are safe to handle and not small enough to be a choking hazard. Always supervise the activity to prevent accidents.
