Early communication is not always intentional and is not always easy to recognise.
General points to consider:
- Give enough time to receive, process and respond.
- Use a consistent approach, e.g. an agreed set of signs / symbols.
- Treat all behaviour as communication.
- Daily opportunities to communicate their wants / needs / preferences.
- Observe responses, identify any patterns.
