Early Communication


Early communication is not always intentional and is not always easy to recognise.

General points to consider:

  • Give enough time to receive, process and respond.
  • Use a consistent approach, e.g. an agreed set of signs / symbols.
  • Treat all behaviour as communication.
  • Daily opportunities to communicate their wants / needs / preferences.
  • Observe responses, identify any patterns.
