Targeted attendance support

If the support on offer from universal services is not enough to help a pupil return to school fully more targeted help may be required.

Education Inclusion Service 

What they offer

The Education Inclusion Service support attendance, advice and guidance to schools, parents and young people. 

Age range supported: Primary and secondary.

Education Keyworker (EKW) Team 

What they offer

Mentoring, low-level parenting support, individual work with children and young people, and creating joint re-engagement plans with school and parent carers. 

Age range supported: KS2, 3 and 4.

Accessing support

Due to the high demand for this service requests for support will need to be prioritised based on need. Please speak to your Attendance Improvement Officer, Education Wellbeing Advisor, or EP if you would like to request support for a pupil.


Education Wellbeing Advisors 

What they offer

The Education Wellbeing Team works closely with schools to support children and young people who might be medically absent to remain learning in their school, or to help them to access learning and support reintegration back into school. 

Age range supported: Primary and secondary.

SEND Advisory Team 

What they offer

  • Outreach to schools, SEN advice and consultancy to schools.  
  • Online SEND Support Consultations for schools.

Age range supported: Early Years through to Further Education.

Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) Team

What they offer

Outreach to schools, consultation, signposting, supervision and training. 

Age range supported: Primary and secondary.

Mental Health Support Team (MHST)


The Mental Health Support Team in Schools (MHST) is an NHS service commissioned to work with a number of schools across Devon. Please note: they do not yet cover all areas of Devon – please check their website to see which areas and schools can currently access this service.

Outreach to some schools and mental health support.

Age range supported: Early Years through to Further Education.

Virtual School 

The Virtual School provide additional support for care experienced pupils.

What they offer


The Virtual School provides outreach to schools, works directly with young people, provides support for parents/carers and training for schools (EBSA specifically), carers and social care. 

Age range supported: Early Years through to Further Education.
