Please see the following communication from the Employment Status Team regarding upcoming Surgeries.
Confused by Employment Status? Surgeries now available to book.
When a contractor does work for any of the Council’s service areas or schools, we are legally obligated by HMRC to assess the work to determine the worker’s tax status and when the appropriate Income Tax and NICs are paid. These regulations are known as Employment Status and the Off-Payroll Working (IR35) Rules.
We understand that Employment Status and IR35 regulations are confusing and that the process can be complex and time-consuming, so we’re giving you a chance to raise these issues in our fortnightly Employment Status Surgeries hosted on Microsoft Teams.
These will be limited to small groups and are for hiring staff members who want to know more about the outcome of status checks they have submitted, such as why they came out the way they did and what to do when the result is received.
If you want a chance to talk to an Employment Status Officer, to raise queries about the process, or simply want to discuss a particular case – here’s a chance. Please be aware that the surgeries aren’t training sessions – please contact the Tax Compliance team at employment.status@devon.gov.uk if you would be interested in training.
Places are limited to 10 places each on a first-come, first-served basis.
