There is no single tool that will effectively screen for all speech, language and communication needs. It is important to remain curious about language for any pupil who is not progressing with their learning, experiencing difficulties with social interaction or presenting with SEMH needs. The examples below are only some of the tools available.
When identifying need, it is important to gather a full picture of the child using a variety of approaches including teacher assessment and observation, pupil progress and attainment, attendance and behaviour data and specific screening and assessment tools. Central to this is ensuring that the views and experiences of both the pupil and parent/carers are also listened to and used to inform any next steps.
