You will need
- A space blanket
- A well-lit area
What to do
1.Lay the space blanket flat on the floor.
2.If the blanket is too large, fold it in half.
3.Place the learner on their back on top of the space blanket.
4.Wrap the sides of the space blanket over their body (not too tight and avoiding their face)
5.Describe what’s happening as you do it – build the anticipation!
6.When wrapped up you could:
- Give a gentle tickle / jiggle.
- Search for their fingers and toes through the space blanket and act surprised when you find them.
7.If the child is a bit older, let them roll themselves up in the space blanket. This encourages full body sensory play.
Purpose
The activity provides full body sensory input, which is beneficial for sensory development.
Rolling themselves up helps develop motor skills and body awareness.
The playful interaction strengthens the bond between you and the child.
