Maths intervention programme for Devon Ukrainian children

Along with the bilingual and interpreter support we are providing this year, we will also be delivering maths online intervention programmes for our Devon Ukrainian children.

Aim

The aim of this intervention is to support Ukrainian children to understand key maths terminology and practice numerical skills to improve their academic outcomes.

How the intervention will work

EMTAS’s own advisory teacher, who is also a maths specialist will deliver learning via a Teams meeting and children will complete tasks on paper, then provide feedback. A Ukraine support teacher will be available to interpret key messages and support the learners with their language. The initial programme is only suitable to children whose home language is Ukrainian. Each group will receive 6 sessions for secondary and 8 sessions for primary, and there will be children from other schools attending the intervention session. Your school will need to ensure that you provide a quiet place and access to a computer, paper, stationery, and a scientific calculator (secondary only) to complete their intervention.

This is fully funded for all Devon schools (excluding Torbay and Plymouth) and is subject to availability.

Secondary programmes

We will be running three secondary online programmes:

  • Group A for those working EL3 – Grade 2 (9:00 – 9:45)
  • Group B for those working at Grade 3 – 5 (9:45 – 10:45)
  • Group C for those working at Grade 6+ (11:45 – 12:30)

Secondary sessions began on 22 November.  You can register your interest for future secondary programmes, including in Russian using the form below.

Primary programmes

We will be running three primary online programmes for year 5 and 6:

  • Group A for those below expected progress (9:00 – 9:30)
  • Group B for those at/close to expected progress (9:30 – 10:00)
  • Group C for those exceeding expected progress (11:00 – 11:30)

Primary sessions will start on the 24 January.  You can also register your interest for future primary Maths intervention programmes in Russian, using the form below.

Please note that due to demand, these times or groups may differ and will be shared with you before they start.

We suggest you register to receive our EMTAS newsletter as future updates will be contained within this.

To register for the maths intervention programme, please complete the Intervention form and ensure that you have the correct ‘working at level’ for Maths selected. A risk assessment and letter of assurance will be sent to you prior to the sessions starting.
