Ethnically diverse education achievement service – core offer

Understanding EDEAS’ core offer

The Ethnically diverse education achievement service (EDEAS) support maintained schools, run by the local authority as well as academies, special and independent settings. In order to meet the demands of the ever changing demographics in our Devon schools we review our core offer to meet the needs of the children we support.

If you are unsure whether your school/setting is a maintained school or not, you can visit the Devon school list.

Funding for multilingual/’EAL’ children

Schools receive funding for multilingual children only.

Every school receives ‘EAL’ funding, which is funding to support your Multilingual (English as an additional language) children.  You will receive this in your yearly budget and it is based on you October census data.

There is a Schools budget calculator (25/26 financial year)/Schools budget calculator (26/27 financial year), which is on the public domain, where you can see how much funding a school received.  This is often thousands of pounds.  To use this spread sheet, ensure you are on the Summary page.  Then enter the school DfE number in the top left, without the ‘/’.  Press enter and then you will find the ‘EAL’ funding under the AEN tab.

Schools who are supporting some refugees, such as Afghan refugees may also be in receipt of additional funding. The families local key worker will inform you if your school is entitled to this funding – this is usually arranged through district councils.

EDEAS funding

EDEAS does not retain any funds or grant funding for requests. EDEAS are unable to support you to access further funding.

EDEAS to however often deliver funded projects, such as additional training. When these are available to schools, these will be advertised in our newsletter, Leadership update from Devon County Council to schools and on our webpages.
