What is Slurry Seal?
A thin layer of surfacing treatment used to waterproof the surface, repair minor imperfections, and extend the life of the footway.
What is the process?
Before the surfacing work can commence, the footway will be cleared of overgrown vegetation, grass, and other material.
A pre-surfacing layer will be placed to even out the surface and remove minor depressions. This may appear messy but is necessary and will be covered by the final surfacing.
A layer of liquid material, 6mm to 8mm in depth, is placed on top of the existing footway and brushed to cover the area. This may remain wet and tacky for a few hours after laying.
Once the slurry seal has set, signage and any masking placed to protect edges and assets will be removed.
Why is the footway being treated?
The council uses ‘asset management’ principles to identify potential areas of work and slurry seal is used to extend the life of the footway.
Can I park my car and access my property?
During the works, footways will be closed and alternative pedestrian routes should be used, footways should reopen after a couple of hours. Parking may be suspended next to the footway to allow access for workers.
Assistance should be available to access properties, but residents may be asked to wait a few minutes while arrangements are made to protect them.
It is recommended that for a short time after the footway has been reopened, you check the bottom of your shoes before entering your property in case any material has been picked up as this may be difficult to remove from carpets and floors. You should also check your tires if you have crossed the footway in case they have picked up any material.
