Car parks in Devon

Most off-street car parks are operated by district councils. Hours and charges will vary.

On-street pay and display parking

Pay to Park or Pay and Display spaces help manage local traffic demand, improve the turnover of short stay parking spaces close to local businesses or amenities for their customers to use and help reduce the volume of traffic looking for a free parking space. Providing and effectively enforcing on-street parking helps us work towards the objectives in our Local Transport Plan.

The days, times, periods, and prices do vary across the County but will be stated on the pay and display machine and road signage where you park. Weekend and Bank Holiday charging periods may be different to those that apply Monday to Friday. Winter and Summer charges may also be used in some coastal locations.

Charges apply on all Bank Holidays, except Christmas Day unless stated otherwise. Carefully check the charging information where you park before leaving your vehicle unattended.

Our machines accept coin payments only, but we do offer cashless alternatives via RingGo.

Paying by phone, text, app or online via RingGo will cost you the same as cash. You can Register here to create an online account or download the RingGo app from the App Store or Google Play. RingGo is currently in use by our Borough, District and City Council’s across Devon in their car parks, and by our neighbouring Councils in the South West.

RingGo customers can choose to receive texts to confirm their parking sessions or receive a warning of paid for time ending shortly, however be advised, these services will incur an additional 10p charge for each message you receive.

Use our interactive Traffweb map to find out more about what types of restrictions you will find at your chosen destination and the days and times they apply. If you will be visiting a location for more than a couple of hours, using a car park may be the better and more cost effective option for you.

Revenue raised through on-street parking charges is used to support and develop local transport schemes, community traffic initiatives across the County and in part supports our Civil Parking Enforcement operation.
