Elastomac
2023 was an exciting year for trialling Elastomac which is, a new product for repairing potholes, cracks, gaps, and other minor bituminous repairs. Starting in April, a trial testing Elastomac took place to see if it could offer efficiencies, providing financial and carbon savings, whilst delivering the quality and reliability required to undertake repairs on the highway.
The Elastomac Trial ran through the summer and concluded in the autumn. It proved to be a very good technique for completing works where speed of repair or minimal disruption (or both) to the network is of high importance. We have had success with this on the A–Road network where traditional patching would have meant road closures and extensive diversions.
It has also proved effective on sunken trenches, around gullies, along centre lines, sections of road with high volume of turning moments, traffic-sensitive locations and safety defects on the minor network. It does have limitations (particularly the weather) and these learnings will be carried forward once the trial has been concluded.
