In line with University of Exeter travel guidance, please consider greener travel options before bringing a car.
You should only bring a vehicle if:
- It’s essential for your course
- You need it for a regular work placement
- You have a medical need for daily use

Where Permits Are Not Available
- Student halls
- New or redeveloped properties
These locations are not included in nearby on-street resident parking schemes.
Shared Housing (Private Rentals / HMOs)
- If permits are available, you and your housemates must decide who uses them
- Permit allocations cannot be increased based on a persons need to have a permit
Applying for a Student Permit
- Apply through the MiPermit Devon portal online (see below)
- Set your start date from when you move in (usually September)
Your permit will:
- End automatically on 31 July
- Include an automatic refund for unused full months after August
🗓️ Student permits are available to buy between August and May. If you are remaining at a property address for more than the academic year then buy a resident permit for the address which will be valid for 12 months from the date you choose to start it from.
Important Warning
- You must live at the address you apply for and be able to provide proof of that when applying
- It is an offence to get a permit for an address where you do not live
- Permits are not transferable
❗ Any permit issued incorrectly will be:
- Cancelled
- Not refunded
Cancelling Your Permit
If you leave university:
- You can cancel at any time via your MiPermit account online.
- You’ll receive a refund for unused full calendar months remaining or unused visitor hours
If your zone receives a paper permit, or you choose to buy or use visitor scratchcards, these are non-refundable.
