Skip providers can use this service to apply and pay for a licence. The cost of the licence is £71.
Before you start
Ensure you have read the skip licence conditions and taken note of all the information provided below in order to submit a successful application.
If you are already registered, enter your email and password. If this is your first application, you will need to register on the system.
We will need to know how long your skip will be in place. You will need to provide a start and end date – but if you don’t know the end date, the maximum licence duration is 28 days. If the skip is removed early you must tell us.
We’ll also need to know the dimensions of the skip. Just enter numbers with no letters (for example, ‘m’) – decimal points are OK. If there is more than one skip, enter the total length of all the skips.
Location
Please make sure you have established that the location of your site is on land maintained by Devon County Council. Any application submitted for land not maintained by us will be non-refundable unless cancelled within our one-hour cancellation policy (see below).
In relation to the site location, we will need to know the:
- site address
- width of the road at the location
- type of traffic management that will be used (if applicable)
- details of any restrictions or additional considerations on the street (for example, waiting and loading restrictions, permanent traffic signals or roadworks)
You will need to provide a site location diagram. You can take a look at examples of acceptable and unacceptable site location plans.
In order to avoid conflicts with other roadworks that may lead to your application being rejected, check the location on one.network before you start.
There may be situations where your skip can be placed using traffic management which is already in place, if you think this might be possible at the location you are looking at, please contact us.
Confirmation
Once your application is submitted you will receive an email notification, containing your reference number, the fee, and a summary of your application.
Payment
We require full payment upon submission of the application form. Our 10 working days’ notice commences upon receipt of both payment and application form. Any applications processed without the correct payment will be contacted so that the payment can be taken.
You will need to call 01392 382900 to make payment by credit card over the phone. Do this straight away as we do not count your application as received until you have made payment.
Office opening hours are Monday to Thursday, 9.00 am to 5.00 pm and Friday, 9.00 am to 4.30 pm. We are closed on bank holidays.
Amendments and cancellations
If an application or licence needs amending, for example, if the dimensions need to be altered or your work dates have changed, you will need to notify us on 01392 382900 or by email to skipsscaffolds@devon.gov.uk. We can only accept amendments from the contractor who has applied for the licence.
If you need to cancel a licence, please call us on 01392 382900 or email skipsscaffolds@devon.gov.uk, quoting the licence number or the location of the work (or both).
Please note that you will only be refunded your licence fee if you cancel the application within one working hour of submission. After this period, you will be charged the full fee. We can only accept cancellations from the contractor who has applied for the licence.
