New oral health guidance and training
Nearly a quarter of 5-year-olds in England have tooth decay – but this is largely preventable.
New oral health guidance from the Department for Education is now available on the help for early years providers website.
The guidance aims to help early years practitioners meet the oral health requirement in the Early Years Foundation Stage statutory framework and covers the following:
- Explains the importance of good oral health for early years children
- Helps practitioners to meet the oral health requirement in the Early Years Foundation Stage statutory framework
- Includes practical tips and activities to use in early years settings
- Links to further reading and resources
Oral health improvement training
The Early Years and Childcare Service have teamed up with the Oral Health Team to provide oral health improvement training for early years and childcare practitioners and out of school practitioners.
Topics covered:
- The consequences of poor oral health
- Diet and its impact on the dentition
- Causes, symptoms and how to prevent tooth decay
- Techniques and support for helping people maintain good oral hygiene
