Do not ignore your ticket! If you pay within 14 days of receiving the ticket you will only pay 50% of the fine.

There is more information available at How to challenge a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) if you are thinking about challenging your parking ticket.

Parking ticket fines (now known as Penalty Charge Notices) are currently set at £70 or £50 (depending on the contravention), but this is discounted by 50% to £35 or £25 if you pay within 14 days of receiving the ticket. If the ticket is left unpaid we can pursue the debt through the County Court.

If you are unable to pay online you can:

  • write to Parking Services, Devon County Council, County Hall, P O Box 811, Exeter EX1 9WA, using the payment slip at the bottom of your Penalty Charge Notice
  • pay in person at Devon County Council Offices at County Hall Exeter, Civic Centre Barnstaple, or Ryefields Kingsteignton
  • pay your ticket by phone on 0345 155 1075

Devon County Council is responsible for monitoring on-street parking in Devon. Our traffic wardens (now known as Civil Enforcement Officers) conduct daily patrols on most principal roads. As a driver, it is your responsibility to check your parking place for any restrictions and to make sure any ticket or permit is clearly displayed. More information at What is Civil Parking Enforcement (CPE)?

If you are unsure where to park refer to the Highway Code Waiting and Parking guidelines for further advice.

Waiting and parking regulations are enforced through Traffic Regulation Orders which are written legal agreements developed by the police and local authorities to manage parking and ensure safe and free flow of traffic.

Most Traffic Regulation Orders are created as a result of input from local communities and the police to address specific traffic congestion, or quality of life, issues.

Devon County Council is a member of the Parking and Traffic Regulations Outside London (PATROL) Adjudication Joint Committee. PATROL provides information about parking tickets, how to pay them and how to challenge them.
