A flood prevention scheme will take place be carried out on the A3052 Four Elms Hill, east of Newton Poppleford from Monday 5 January to Friday 13 February 2026. The road will be closed weeknights 8pm-6am with manually controlled 2-way temporary traffic lights in place outside of the working hours to protect the site.
These essential works will reduce the frequency of flooding on the carriageway and minimise the damage caused during flooding, reducing the need for road closures to repair flood damage. Using a combination of traditional engineering and natural flood management, our works will include:
- Installation of a maintenance bay to allow easy and safe access to the site for future maintenance
- Installation of kerbing and improved drainage on the south (Exeter-bound) side to prevent floodwater causing damage to the road
- Installation of a series of shallow ‘leaky dams’ in the wooded area towards the top of Four Elms Hill to reduce the amount of debris on the carriageway and even out surface water flows:
