Before you start

Signs for short term events may be permitted on the public highway where there are a substantial number of drivers strange to the area that are seeking the event and existing signate is inadequate. They are not advertising signs and must not be used for marketing.

Permission is not automatic. Applications are assessed on traffic management and highway safety grounds and will only be approved where the Highway Authority considers directional signing to be justified.

An application covers up to six signs.

Ensure that you have:

• read the terms and conditions
• confirmed that the location/s is on highway maintained at public expense.

You will need to provide:

• the applicant’s details
• the event details, including expected number of visitors, possible peak periods for arrival and departure and the provision of car parking
• the number of signs
• proposed installation date
• details of the signage contractor
• a location plan showing each proposed sign location, sign dimensions and fixing details.

Payment

A payment link will be sent following receipt of your application. This will usually take place within 24 hours/one working day. We will not begin processing your application until payment has been received.

What happens next?

Once we have received confirmation of your payment, we will process your application.
