Contractors can use this service to apply and pay for a licence to carry out minor work on the highway. The cost of a standard licence is £71 and we require 20 days’ notice.
In an emergency, it’s possible for us to grant a licence with less than 20 days’ notice but at an increased cost of £130.00.
Before you start
Please ensure that you have read the licence conditions and taken note of the guidance provided below in order to submit a successful application.
The work
We will need to know the proposed start and end date of the work.
Please provide a clear description of the nature of the work and why the use of the public highway is required. You will need to tell us:
- what type of materials are being stored on site
- the existing road width and the width the road will be reduced to once materials are on site
Location
You will need to provide a clear description of the location of the proposed work, including a postcode and where on the public highway it is situated. For example, the verge, footway or road.
We will also need a:
- grid reference
- plan of the location with details of dimensions, traffic management and proposed use – you may attach a copy of the sketch plan approved by the planning office
What happens next?
Once we have received your application the Highway Services Team will process your request and issue approval or rejection. If we require further information we will be in touch.
Amendments, cancellations and extensions
If an application or licence needs amending or extending you will need to notify us on 01392 385084 (option 5). Extending or amending a licence costs £54.00.
