What we are doing
Devon County Council will be carrying out highway improvement works on the A3015 Rydon Lane between Monday 19 January and Saturday 7 March 2026.
Our work involves resurfacing the road, drainage repairs, barrier removal, bridge joint maintenance and the replacement of street lighting and road signs. The highway requires maintenance and these essential repairs will help restore the surface and improve safety.
Locations
We will be working in four sections:
- Pynes Hill junction – highlighted in yellow on the below map
- Rydon Lane South – highlighted in blue on the below map
- Rydon Lane North – highlighted in green on the below map
- A379 On-Slip – highlighted in pink on the below map

Work programme
Phase 1: 24 hours a day, Monday 19 January to Thursday 19 February
We will be clearing vegetation, replacing signs and lighting and doing drainage works on Rydon Lane – north and south*. We will be present 24 hours a day under a lane closure. The road will remain open, but delays should be expected.
*Please note that during this period there will also be night works on Rydon Lane – South, as noted in Phase 2.1.
Phase 2: Night time (7pm to 7am), Monday 2 February to Saturday 7 March
We will be resurfacing the road and applying new road markings. We will be working per section. The section where we are working will be fully closed. Access to residential properties will be maintained, but delays should be expected. Emergency access will always be maintained.
- Phase 2.1: Rydon Lane – south
Rydon Lane (southbound) will be closed on weekday evenings (7 pm – 7 am) from Monday 2 to Tuesday 17 February.
Diversion route
- Monday 2 – Friday 6 February
- Wednesday 11 – Tuesday 17 February
Drivers wanting to go south on Rydon Lane will have to take the off-slip to access Russell Way and then access Rydon Lane again using the A379 on-slip.
- Phase 2.2: A379 on-slip
We will be working on the A379 on-slip from:
- Friday 6 to Wednesday 11 February (week nights only).
- Monday 16 to Friday 20 February.
Diversion route Rydon Lane (southbound) and A379 on-slip
Rydon Lane (southbound) and A379 on-slip will both be closed on weekday evenings (7 pm – 7 am from Friday 6 – Wednesday 11 February.
Drivers wanting to go south on Rydon Lane will first have to go north via either the A379-on-slip or Russell Way, then go west via Sidmouth Road, Honiton Road, Fore Street and Heavitree Road. At the roundabout they will have to go south on Western Way and Magdalen Street. At the next roundabout they will go back east following Holloway Street and Topsham Road until they reach Countess Wear Roundabout. Here they can access to Rydon Lane again.
Diversion route A379 on-slip
A379 on-slip will be closed on weekday evenings (7 pm – 7 am) from Monday 16 – Friday 20 February.
Drivers wanting to access Rydon Lane coming from the A379 will first have to go north on Russell Way and will then have to turn left to access Rydon Lane again.
- Phase 2.3: Rydon Lane – north
We will be working here from Friday 20 to Saturday 28 February (week nights only).
Diversion route Rydon Lane (northbound)
Drivers on Rydon Lane wanting to go north will have to take the A379 off-slip and turn left to access Russell Way until they are back on Rydon Lane.
Drivers coming from the A379 on-slip wanting to access Rydon Lane going north will have to take the on-slip going south first and come back north on Rydon Lane at the Countess Wear roundabout until they reach the A379 off-slip. Here they can turn left to access Russell Way until they are back on Rydon Lane.
- Phase 2.4: Pynes Hill
We will be working here from Friday 27 February to Saturday 7 March (week nights only).
