Background
With the recent announcement of the confirmed funding for Exmouth by the Department for Transport and contributions from Devon County Council, East Devon District Council and Exmouth Town Council, this scheme will deliver an extension to link Dinan Way with the A376.
The aim of the works is to reduce congestion along the routes into Exmouth and to provide better access for road users into the town.
Progress of works
Dinan Way extension to open as final phase of Exmouth scheme gets underway.
The new Dinan Way extension in Exmouth will open on 9 September as work begins on the final phase of the scheme. However, the next stage will mean some disruption for drivers for the rest of the year. A short section of the A376 between Courtlands Cross and Courtlands Lane will close to through traffic while the roundabout is completed. Temporary traffic lights will be removed from the A376 over the summer months to help ease traffic flow in and out of Exmouth.
There will also be overnight closures at Courtlands Cross from 7pm to 6am on 7th and 8th September to allow preparatory work to be carried out.
The new 800-metre road will carry traffic in and out of Exmouth while the second new roundabout is finished at the A376 junction.
During the closure, vehicles travelling to and from Exmouth town centre will be diverted along the newly completed Dinan Way extension and Hulham Road. The diversion route will include a number of temporary one-way routes. Please see map below.
There will few parking restrictions but the ones in place will be outside Hulham Road stores and at the nearby junction with Exeter Road, where the road narrows. To facilitate footway widening works as part of the A376 to improve routes for pedestrians and cyclists, there will also be parking restrictions on the A376 between Courtlands Lane junction and Rivermead Avenue.
Poor weather earlier in the year also meant earthworks could not be completed for several months, and the scheme has also been affected by supply chain issues.
The overall scheme is currently expected to be finished by the end of this year.
Temporary traffic lights will also be needed on parts of the A376 during the autumn while contractors move utility services and finish drainage, kerbs and footway work.
The Dinan Way extension scheme is being funded by the UK Government, Devon County Council, East Devon District Council and Exmouth Town Council.
What we are doing
The construction of the Dinan Way extension includes:
- installation of a new roundabout and associated works at the junction between Dinan Way and Hulham Road
- installation of a new roundabout and associated works at the junction between A376 and the extension of Dinan Way
- construction of a carriageway, footway and associated works between Hulham Road and the A376

Diversion route
The overnight diversion route during road closures for resurfacing works will be provided as part of future communications closer to the time of works; our working hours will be between 7pm until 7am. Information regarding the diversion route can be found via Causeway one.network
