Devon Highways will be carrying out a programme of drainage improvement works in Copplestone between 4 August and 8 September 2026.
The works will be completed in phases and will require road closures and temporary traffic management arrangements to ensure the safety of road users and our workforce.
We appreciate that these works may cause some inconvenience and would like to thank residents, businesses and road users for their patience and understanding while the improvements are carried out.
Where we will be working
A377 Northbound Closure from Water Bridge Cross to Copplestone – Tuesday 4 August to Monday 24 August
Between Tuesday 4 August to Monday 24 August 2026 the A377 will be closed to northbound traffic between Water Bridge Cross and Copplestone. There will be multi-way temporary traffic lights will be in operation and the existing one-way system between Bassets Bridge and Copplestone Cross will be temporarily suspended.
Bewsley Hill Closure – Tuesday 4 August to Monday 24 August
Between Tuesday 4 August to Monday 24 August 2026 Bewsley Hill will be closed. There will be a signed diversion route in place.

A377 Southbound Closure – Tuesday 25 August to Tuesday 8 September
Between Tuesday 25 August to Tuesday 8 September 2026 the A377 southbound between Bassets Bridge and Copplestone Cross will be closed. Where possible, the road will be reopened overnight to reduce disruption. There will be multi-way temporary traffic lights will be in operation. The signals will be manually controlled between 7:00am and 6:30pm.
We will maintain access for residents and businesses but delays should be expected. Access for emergency vehicles will always be maintained. Access queries should be directed to our Contractor or an operative on site who will be glad to assist.
