Supporting health and social care providers in Devon

Enabling

MPS: Enabling

Enabling focuses on meeting people’s outcomes and enabling greater independence in their home such as cooking skills and access to their community such at attending gym and shopping.

Enabling is delivered exclusively one to one and is an unregulated activity.

Unregulated service to support and enable individuals to develop their confidence, skills and abilities to live an independent life, minimising any crisis situations.

Support is usually provided Monday to Friday between 8:00 am and 6:00pm with some packages requiring support at weekends.

The services are frequently used by individuals who have mental health needs, including forensic needs, who may be autistic, have a learning disability or a physical disability or need more support later in life. Enabling support is delivered through a variety of care packages of differing sizes and levels of complexity.

The type of support that is defined as enabling may include help developing a home, managing a tenancy, budgeting, dealing with paperwork and correspondence, managing nutritional needs and health, accessing a community, developing networks, accessing employment or meaningful occupation and managing emotions.
