Nursing in social care

If you are interested in Nursing and support roles in Social Care there are several options available. For registered roles there are apprenticeship routes for Registered Nurse and Nursing Associate programmes. These programmes comprise academic and practice components building knowledge, skills and experience in health and social care.

New guidance from Health Education England about the Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship. The Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship enables apprentices to come together as a diverse group of learners from a variety of different health, social and voluntary care organisations including mental health, acute trusts, community settings, nursing homes, hospices and GP practices.

5 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above to include Mathematics, English, and Science.

Consideration may be given to Functional Skills Level 2 in Mathematics

Plus, one of the following: Minimum of two A levels, Access to HE Diploma, BTEC RQF National Extended Diploma/QCF , Extended Diploma, International Baccalaureate

MNurs (Hons) Nursing (adult health and mental health)

Integrated masters programme with BSc (Hons) nursing course

Assistant practitioner

There is also an apprentice route to Assistant Practitioner. Assistant Practitioners work across a variety of Health and Social Care organisations providing direct care. Their education and experience enables them to work in health and social care teams, contributing to the delivery of high quality care.

Like the Nursing Associate the educational preparation programme is 2 years, achieving a L5 qualification and comprises academic study with practice experience. On successful completion the student is able to apply for Band 4 Assistant Practitioner posts within the NHS and Health and Social Care organisations.
