Training and education opportunities

Learn Devon

Offers support with Maths, English and digital skills. These courses are for anyone wanting to improve their skills. This can range from entry level all the way up to Level 2 qualifications. You can enrol at any time throughout the year and the tutors will tailor your learning exactly around your needs. These are very flexible course; you will work at your own pace and you will be set your own goals.

BKSB

Free to all social care staff – help for those wishing to take Functional Skills in Maths and/or English. Support for functional skills as requirements for learners undertaking an apprenticeship. RESTORE2

RESTORE 2 stands for: Recognise Early Soft-signs, Take Observations, Respond, Escalate. The tool has been designed by West Hampshire CCG and Wessex AHSN to help care and nursing professionals to:

  • Recognise when a resident may be deteriorating or at risk of physical deterioration
  • Act appropriately according to the resident’s care plan to protect and manage the resident
  • Obtain a complete set of physical observations to inform escalation and conversations with health professionals
  • Speak with the most appropriate health professional in a timely way to get the right support
  • Provide a concise escalation history to health professionals to support their professional decision making

East Devon, Mid Devon and Exeter

  • The Eastern Care Services Team are pleased to announce that from September 2021 they will be offering free RESTORE2 training to Care Providers in Exeter, Mid and East Devon. The training will be offered either virtually, via MS Teams, or face to face whilst adhering to strict COVID19 infection control precautions. Restore2mini

Blue Stream Academy launching online RESTORE2mini free training for every care professional. RESTORE2mini online training enables care home and domiciliary care professionals to gain new deterioration management skills and improved knowledge and understanding of the people for whom they care.

South West Academic Health Science Network is pleased to present this important, free of charge, RESTORE2mini training resource for all carers to help provide better care across health and care environments. It’s available to access at any time – 24/7.

The oral health improvement team are offering Free training!

  • We provide training to care workers responsible for the oral health of both children and adults
  • Training takes 1-2½ hours (bespoke to suit your needs)
  • Tooth brushing demos provided
  • CPD certificates are issued upon completion

Safeguarding

Safeguarding adults training is available for anyone who works with or cares for adults at risk of significant harm. Safeguarding training and Mental Capacity training is currently funded at Level 2 and Level 3 for Private, Voluntary, and Independent, Health and Social Care Providers. For further information look at the Torbay and Devon Safeguarding Partnership.

If you have a Devon County Council email address, you can create an account and access the E-Learning via DEL.

If you do not have a DCC email address, please email safeguardingadultstraining-mailbox@devon.gov.uk for them to set up an account for you. You will need to include your full name, job title, full working address including postcode, email address and contact number in this email. You can contact the team regarding any Safeguarding Adults or Mental Capacity Act workforce development requirements.

Nursing qualifications

If you are interested in Nursing and support roles in Social Care there are several options available. For registered roles there are apprenticeship routes for Registered Nurse and Nursing Associate programmes. Additionally, there is also an apprentice route to Assistant Practitioner. These programmes comprise academic and practice components building knowledge, skills and experience in health and social care.
