Royal Devon University NHS Foundation Trust Education for Care Providers
Free education sessions available to care settings and providers in North, Mid, East Devon and Exeter. Education packages link with current legislation and guidelines and are reviewed continually by the educators. Our education packages strive to be inclusive, interactive, and accessible for all.
Education is provided with sessions offered to complement the existing training already provided by the care setting or provider, and adapted to meet the needs of those attending. Alike to safeguarding support, education is part of every clinician’s role.
The team are made up of; Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Assistant Practitioner and a Secretary based across Eastern and Northern Community Services with a focus of education and supporting safeguarding processes.
Falls Prevention and Awareness
We are offering free education on Falls Prevention & Awareness for Care Homes and providers. This education will include: –
- How to identify a resident at risk of falling
- What actions should be taken to reduce their risk of falling
- If someone fell, which service is appropriate?
- Signposting to services & useful resources
- Safe floor retrieval
- We will also include a Falls Resource Pack for your setting.

Nutrition
Intake of good nutrition is a fundamental part of everyday life but can often be challenging. The impact of poor nutrition has far reaching effects on quality of life and overall health.
The education is aimed at care staff to give practical guidance on how to support clients maintain optimum dietary intake. It covers recognising signs and symptoms, prevention of and improvement of malnutrition and includes recognising problems with swallowing, referral to speech and language therapy and the IDDSI framework

- Alzheimer’s Society, a range of information services, resources and specialist training for health and social care professionals working with people who have dementia.
eLearning
Devon County Council have partnered with Flourish previously called Grey Matter Learning to provide part funded social care courses for all providers in the Devon catchment area, this is 2/3 funded. The platform allows users access to over 130 social care eLearning courses, all in one place! To sign up for an account, please contact the team. Select contact us and fill in the required details and add that you would like an account under the Devon County Council funding. A member of the team will then be in touch with you to set up an account.
Oral Health
The oral health improvement team are offering Free training! They provide training to care workers responsible for the oral health of both children and adults. Training takes 1-2½ hours (bespoke to suit your needs) Tooth brushing demos provided, CPD certificates are issued upon completion, contact the team to find out more information and book your training session. Quality Assurance and Improvement Team
The Quality Assurance and Improvement Team at Devon County Council offers a free support service which includes:
- Helping you to identify the reason(s) for any non-compliance following a CQC Inspection and supporting you to develop an action plan to enable you to return to compliance
- Helping to identify where systems and processes are not effective and where improvements can be made
- Providing you with supportive resources, advice, guidance and information on improving quality in all aspects of your service provision
- Supporting you to develop and implement an effective quality assurance programme that will provide long term benefits in maintaining the quality of your service
- Prioritised referrals to leadership and management development training
