Supporting health and social care providers in Devon

Community Education Assurance Team

Royal Devon University NHS Foundation Trust Education for Care Providers

Free education sessions available to care settings and providers in North, Mid, East Devon and Exeter. Education packages link with current legislation and guidelines and are reviewed continually by the educators. Our education packages strive to be inclusive, interactive, and accessible for all.

Education is provided with sessions offered to complement the existing training already provided by the care setting or provider, and adapted to meet the needs of those attending. Alike to safeguarding support, education is part of every clinician’s role.

The team are made up of; Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Assistant Practitioner and a Secretary based across Eastern and Northern Community Services with a focus of education and supporting safeguarding processes.

Royal Devon Speech and Language Team & Referral UPDATE

The Royal Devon speech and language therapy service (Eastern) are changing the way we manage our referrals slightly. This is in response to an increased demand on our service and subsequently increased waiting times in recent years which is meaning that some people are waiting much longer than we would want to be helped.

Please continue to refer to us in the usual way. If the difficulties described are relatively straightforward, we will ask you to complete our ‘Eating and Drinking Good Practice Guidelines’ as a first step in supporting your resident with eating and drinking. Please take some time to work through this guideline (we suggest 7-10 days) as it may be that these suggestions are sufficient in supporting your resident to eat and drink more comfortably and easily. These completed guidelines can also be added to your resident’s care plan to demonstrate liaison with the speech and language therapy service.

If after completing it you still feel that a referral is required, please return the completed ‘ Eating and Drinking Good Practice Guidelines’, detailing the changes that you have trialled with your resident with the outcome of these, together with a new referral form. This is helpful in supporting our prioritisation process. Thank you for your support with this!
