Do it for working with families to keep children safe

A group of people stood in a circle all holding hands.

The Corporate Parenting team are responsible for a child once it comes into care, from this point they become ‘looked after’. Our team become their corporate parent, a role that we share with our partner agencies.

In Devon, we are working for a future where every child in care thrives in an environment of love, support, and empowerment. We commit to creating a Devon where our children and young people overcome challenges and flourish into confident, capable individuals, equipped with the skills and resilience needed for a successful and fulfilling life.

The Corporate Parenting strategy is based on seven principles, which are to:

  • Act in their best interests and promote their physical and mental health and well-being.
  • Encourage them to express their views, wishes and feelings.
  • Take their views, wishes and feelings into account.
  • Help them to gain access to and make the best use of services provided by the local authority and its relevant partners.
  • Promote high aspirations and seek to secure the best outcomes for them.
  • Be safe and have stability in their home lives, relationships, education, and work.
  • Prepare them for adulthood and independent living.
