Devon County Council is committed to supporting its internal and external workforce in developing skills and competencies in strengths-based approaches. We have an exciting opportunity coming up for care workers to take part in a Strengths Based approach training pilot.

Tandra Forster

Tandra Forster, Director of Integrated Adult Social Care, Devon County Council said:

“It’s important that we progress our strengths-based workforce development strategy with both parts of our workforce: internal and external. Providers are key partners in building our collaborative approach to strengths-based working”.

The training will include a suite of e-learning available via our learning portal, plus a series of interactive live workshops via webinar in October and November. This opportunity is a pilot at this stage so only available to a limited number of care workers – 2 per provider organisation.

Key themes will include:

  • Understanding Devon’s approach to the Care Act
  • Goal setting and outcomes-focused working
  • TECs and other digital resources to support and enhance care delivery.
  • Person centred planning tools e.g. 247 grid, PATH planning
  • Constant Supervision; a Human Rights perspective

Care workers attending the course must be able to commit to the total learning / training hours in October and November and have their manager’s approval. This will involve 4-5 hours interactive webinars plus self-directed e-learning which can be done at your own pace. Spaces will be available on a first come first serve basis (up to 2 staff in any one provider organisation). We would encourage both managers and frontline workers to apply. Community Services providers (personal care, day, enabling, personal assistants, supported living and micro-providers) will be prioritised at this stage. There will also be a requirement for a pre and post evaluation and a one month follow up.

You only need to book onto one workshop for each theme. There may be a TECs webinar added later but two dates will be offered as per the others.

The dates and times are:

  • 9 October 2-3pm – 24/7 Grid, Path Planning
  • 10 October 11.30am- 12.30pm – Constant Supervision
  • 11 October 3-4pm – Constant Supervision
  • 16 October 2-3pm – 24/7 Grid, Path Planning
  • 17 October 10-11am – Goal Setting and Outcomes
  • 18 October 12.30-1.30pm – Goal Setting and Outcomes

If you are interested in signing up for the course, please complete the form below. Please note that manager approval will be required before expressions of interest can be accepted. If you are a personal assistant / micro-provider (a self-employed, sole trader), we will contact you to verify this.
