Glove Awareness Week 2022 will take place between 2 – 6 May and this year the focus is on how reducing unnecessary glove use can help make health care more sustainable.
Unsurprisingly, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has led to a huge increase in the number of gloves being used. In the last year alone, 5.5 billion gloves were used in the NHS and social care in England.
When used correctly, gloves are a vital piece of PPE equipment, however there are many occasions when gloves are not needed, and hand hygiene is completely effective in protecting you and your patients.
This Glove Awareness Week can you make one change in your daily routine to safely reduce unnecessary glove use. By doing this together, not only will we help prevent the spread of infection and protect the skin on our hands, but we will also help reduce the impact of health and social care on the environment.
