The surrounding road network allows access to the canal at regular intervals along its entire length.
For access to the Canal Basin and southern end of the Canal
The main entrance to the Country Park is the Canal Basin in Tiverton. Located on the south-eastern side of Tiverton, the Canal Basin is well signposted from all major routes into the town.
For access to the central section of the Canal
From Tiverton – take the road towards Halberton, passing Blundells School;
From the M5 – Turn off the M5 at Junction 27 and follow the A361 North Devon Link Road, taking the first exit to Sampford Peverell.
To access the northern end of the Canal
From the M5 – Turn off the M5 at Junction 27 and follow the A38 to Wellington and follow signs to Burlescombe.

You can walk to the canal by following fingerpost directional signs around Tiverton. These are colour coordinated—follow the green signs for the canal.
- The Canal Basin is approximately a half-mile walk up Canal Hill
- The Tourist Information Centre (located in the museum near the station) can provide directions or alternatively follow the fingerposts signs towards the Canal.

Cycling is a popular way to explore the Country Park.
The canal forms part of National Cycle Network Route 3.- The towpath is flat and accessible for all
- Cyclists must dismount under bridges
- Please give way to pedestrians and horses towing the barge

There are regular bus services from Tiverton Bus Station, that stop near the Country Park.
Local routes from Tiverton Bus Station:
- 353 – Tiverton to Tidcombe Circular bus service stops near the Canal Basin and at Tidcombe Bridge
- 373 – Tiverton to Cullompton via Halberton, Sampford Peverell and Tiverton Parkway railway station
- 22 – Tiverton to Taunton nearest bus stop to Burlescombe is Maiden Down Cross on the A38 but you will need to walk 1.3 miles (approximately 25 min) to get to the Canal.

The nearest station is Tiverton Parkway railway station, located between Sampford Peverell and M5 Junction 27, around six miles from Tiverton.
- Regular services operate between Exeter and Taunton
- Boehill Bridge (canal access point) is approximately a half-mile walk from the station

The Canal extends for eleven and a quarter mile (18km) from the Canal Basin in Tiverton, through the villages of Halberton, Sampford Peverell, and Burlescombe, to the hamlet of Lowdwells, close to the Somerset border.
