Do it for promoting independence in everyday activities

As an Occupational Therapist working in Integrated Adult Social Care in Devon, you will use a strengths-based approach to help people live their best life at home, at work and everywhere else by supporting individuals in the activities that are important to them (occupations).

You’ll use your Occupational Therapy core skills, including activity analysis, understanding the impact of disability and the environment on independence, and knowledge of adaptive solutions to reduce dependence.

You’ll work across all areas of adult social care, delivering a range of interventions including providing information and advice, technology, moving and handling guidance, equipment provision, environmental adaptations, safeguarding, full case management using a compensatory approach.

Occupational therapists work closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide a strong social care presence.

Care Direct Plus & Community Teams

Our vibrant and friendly care direct plus and community teams cover both very rural and urban areas with posts co-located in community hospitals, there are excellent development opportunities for occupational therapists who wish to progress their career. The community teams work with adults of working age and older adults who may need support because of physical or learning disabilities.

Peripatetic Team

Our Peripatetic Team undertake rotations in various teams across the Devon County Council footprint (community, hospital, or specialist team).

Social Care Reablement Team

Our Social Care Reablement Teams provide a short term service usually up to 3 weeks to adults who need support to remain independently living in their own home.

You will work with people and their carers/family to undertake a holistic assessment using current research to evidence your practice, within the context of adult social care, health policy and legislation. The work will include screening and assessment roles; face to face and on the phone.

You’ll provide support, advice and training to staff including unregistered workers and students.

Preceptorship programme

Devon has a preceptorship programme to support newly qualified, return to practice and new to social care Occupational Therapists. We also provide opportunities for development and networking across health and social care.
