Do it for children and young people with dual sensory loss
The Multi Sensory Impairment Team support children and young people registered as Deafblind. We support children with dual sensory loss to access their Education (up to the age of 25), by providing specialist 1:1 support in their classroom; putting strategies in place the make the curriculum accessible to them. This could range from using British Sign Language to supporting the use of high and low tech Augmentative and Alternative Communication devices, among other communication techniques. Our aim is provide equal opportunities for young people with multi-sensory impairment to access the same Education as their peers. We also support with mobility, orientation around school sights and personal care.

To support children and young people with dual sensory loss to achieve their full potential for the future. By supporting in education and socially this enables them to become more independent with communication, to practice orientation and mobility and to enable them to learn and develop.

Careers in Devon’s Multi Sensory Impairment Team
Team Leader
Team Leaders support the Multi Sensory Workers by giving them the knowledge, skills and training they need to support our young people. They are skilled in providing 1:1 support for young people and strive to instil this knowledge and experience into the staff team. Team Leaders have regular contact with parents, schools and other professional agencies in order to make sure that we are providing the right support to meet the individual needs of our children and young people.
Multi Sensory Worker
Our Multi Sensory Workers provide specialist 1:1 support in Education settings and in the community in all aspect of daily life. They help our young people to access Education, activities, build life skills, promote independence, give personal care and work towards positive outcomes. They work closely with schools and parents to set outcomes for young people and to break them down into achievable steps to work towards achieving them. Multi Sensory Workers have skills in a range of different communication methods, including British Sign Language, ACC, sighted guide etc. They are supported to develop their skills and we encourage and support staff in gaining new qualifications; such at British Sign Language.
