Our Children’s Home team provide individualised support for children and young people with complex needs, in both 52 week and Short Breaks provision.
Devon County Council currently provide 7 Children’s Homes for children aged 0 – 17 year. They are located in Barnstaple, Exeter, Honiton, Tiverton, Dartington and Okehampton.
The ethos of our service is to provide children with a home away from home experience and to enhance and promote their life experiences and independence skills. Alongside preparing them for the next stages of their lives.

Residential Support Worker
Our Residential Support Workers support the young people in their day to day lives, to achieve their goals and wishes. They support young people in all aspects of their daily lives, including medication and personal care. They are aspirational in helping young people to achieve positive outcomes and strive to create a fun and homely atmosphere. Residential Support Workers have a real opportunity to positively impact the lives of the children and young people who access our homes.
Residential Team Leader
Team Leaders support the young people in their day to day lives, to achieve their goals and wishes, alongside the Residential Support Workers. They manage and support the Residential Support Workers to do their job, by setting an example of good practice and motivating the team to embed the values and vision of the service.
Deputy Manager
The Deputy Manager works alongside the Registered Manager to ensure effective running of the home, including oversight and quality assurance. They support the staff team in embedding a high-performance culture, by helping them to continually develop their skills so that they can achieve the best outcomes for our children and young people.
Registered Manager
The Registered Manager is responsible for providing a stable home for the children and young people, in line with individual needs and care plans. They lead and develop the fantastic teams of staff within the homes and work closely with colleagues and other agencies to secure inspiring outcomes for our young people. The Registered Manager has day to day responsibility for the home, and ensures a high standard of care at all times. They have a child centred approach and focus on promoting independence, social inclusion, choice and robust individual support to the children and young people in their care.
Responsible Individual
The Responsible Individual leads a team of Registered Managers and helps them to develop their teams within the Children’s Homes. They work closely with colleagues and other agencies to secure inspiring outcomes for our young people. The Responsible Individual must have excellent leadership and management skills, along with strong organisational skills. They must have the passion, drive, resilience and ambition to maintain and exceed expectations for children and always want to strive to improve the homes’ environments.
