Waste Management
Our waste management team ensure that current waste is managed and where possible recycled whilst seeking to reduce future waste generation through education and communication initiatives. Our teams are offered support to gain professional membership where appropriate, have regular training and benefit from a flexible working environment. The team is well respected and influential at a national level. Career pathways within Devon Waste Management are broadly split between two key areas.
The Strategy & Communications Team
This team is responsible, for engaging householders, schools and communities. They work closely with the district councils and organise roadshows, workshops, reuse and repair events and use social media and web pages to influence the behaviour of young and old alike.
They lead on the award winning ‘Don’t let Devon go to waste’ https://www.recycledevon.org campaign which aims to raise awareness of the need to reduce, reuse and recycle waste, reducing costs and environmental impact.
The Operations Team
This team manage the cost-effective delivery and management (through contracts and partnership arrangements) of two energy recovery facilities and 19 Household Waste Recycling Centres. This work involves negotiating, planning, contract management, performance inspections and dealing directly with contractors, large and small, ensuring the County Council achieves value for money and a quality service. The team also works with the Customer Service Centre on frontline queries from the public.
The County Council also maintains 58 redundant landfill sites, ensuring they have minimal impact on the environment and are eventually returned to a useful condition.
