Working as a Health Visitor
Health Visitors are registered nurses who have completed additional training to become Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (SCPHN) in Health Visiting.
Health Visitors lead and deliver the Healthy Child Programme thereby improving outcomes for children and families. They support families from antenatal to when their children are 5 years old and then the last sentence that is there.
They contribute to the Public Health Agenda, meet Public Health targets and reduce health inequalities in partnership with key agencies meeting the national agenda. They promote the protection of children, adhering to the Local Safeguarding Children’s Board policies and procedures. They will be supported by Team Leaders and various dedicated health professionals including Health Visitors, School Nurses and Community Health Workers.

Why we do it for Devon
I have always loved being a Health Visitor because, having worked in hospitals, you realise that the health trajectory of all of us is usually set in childhood, and health visiting gives me the opportunity to offer early intervention.
