Working as a Staff Nurse
Our PHN staff nurses are registered nurses that support the delivery of the Healthy Child programme (0-19years) helping to improve outcomes for children.
They work under the supervision of our SCPHN School Nurses and Health Visitors and with our partner agencies when appropriate. Our PHN Staff Nurses support families with children from 0-5 years, and families with children or young people aged 5-19 years.
They contribute to the Public Health Agenda, meet Public Health targets and reduce health inequalities in partnership with key agencies meeting National agendas. They promote the protection of children, adhering to the Local Safeguarding Children’s Board policies and procedures.
Continuous Service for all new staff joining from the NHS
From June 1st 2024, all new staff joining Devon County Council (DCC) from the NHS will maintain their continuous service for calculation of DCC sick pay entitlement and DCC Maternity/Adoption and paternity pay entitlement.

Why we do it for Devon
I have always loved being a Health Visitor because, having worked in hospitals, you realise that the health trajectory of all of us is usually set in childhood, and health visiting gives me the opportunity to offer early intervention.
