Do it for making things safer for the people of Devon
Working in Data Protection and Information Security
The Data Protection and Information Security Team is a dynamic and growing team within the Digital and Technology Service. We play a leading role investigating breaches of information security. We also work hard to ensure lessons are learned when incidents occur, ensuring we improve as we move forward. We work with services across the Council to ensure that their use of data is compliant with data protection laws and information governance best practice. We’re passionate about ensuring people across the organisation understand how to deliver their service in a way that ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data is maintained.
The team is led by the Strategic Information Governance Manager, who is the Devon County Council Data Protection Officer. We also have expert Information Security Officers, who investigate and respond to suspected or actual information security breaches. They play a key role in ensuring that risks associated with breaches are identified and work closely with services to ensure appropriate lessons are learned. The team also includes a specialist support role, who, among other tasks, collates information following a security incident and ensures investigation records are maintained.
Our values and ways of working
Devon County Council is responsible for handling thousands of documents and records containing personal data every day. Sometimes, the confidentiality, integrity, and or availability of this information can be compromised. Through our work the Data Protection and Information Security Team help to ensure that the safety and privacy of the people of Devon is protected as much as possible. One way we do this is to provide training and guidance about data protection to every person that works for the Council.
continuously exposed to various people from across the Council including managers, heads of service and directors. This makes for a varied and engaging workplace. It means that in addition to being experts in relation to data protection and information governance, our team prides itself on having excellent communication skills.
