Do it for shaping safer communities
Devon County Council’s Property Team plays a vital role in managing and safeguarding publicly funded land and buildings across Devon. We ensure that all property transactions and decisions comply with local government legislation and the Council’s Constitution and Codes of Practice. These measures guarantee fairness, impartiality and transparency of decision making for the people of Devon.
The work carried out by the Property Team is extremely varied, complex, fast-paced and provides a variety of opportunities for learning and professional growth. We provide expert legal advice on a wide range of property-related matters, including land and property acquisitions and disposals, development agreements, commercial leases and academy conversions. We also deal with community land transfers and land held within charitable trusts, ensuring such assets continue to benefit the local community. Our team also deal with a variety of non-contentious highways and planning matters, including Highways Agreements, Planning Agreements, Compulsory Purchase Orders, Highways Act Notices and Traffic Regulation Orders.
We work closely with our members, officers and partners in a pro-active and collaborative way , which enables us to provide the best possible legal advice to the Council when it is needed. This ensures the Council is able to make informed and legally compliant decisions when seeking to achieve its Strategic Aims.
